Field Description
Use adjusting entry to remove Progress for deleted budget If earned value has already been calculated for a work package, then the entire budget is deleted. This option allows you to show a negative earned value in the current period to zero out the previously posted earned value.

If this option is cleared, Cobra deletes the earned value for the resource without an adjusting entry when a budget is deleted.

Progress by: You have four options for calculating earned value:
  • Budget: Select this option to summarize the budget across all periods and to apply the progress technique. Earned value is calculated by moving through the time-phase table up to the time of the calculation, earning the first result and associated budget.
  • Dollars : Select this option to calculate earned value based on total budgeted currency. The currency earned is pro-rated to arrive at the remainder of the resource costs.
  • Hours SPI : Select this option to calculate earned value by backing into the currency amount of the earned value so that the schedule performance index (SPI) based on hours is the same for both hours and total currency value.
  • Time : Select this option to calculate earned value based on a percentage of the work package's time-phased budget. For example, a work package that is 50% complete earns the portion of the work package's budget that corresponds to the first half of that work package's duration.
Exclude Work Packages with the following Progress Techniques Click to display the Progress Technique dialog box and select one or more progress techniques from the list. Work packages with the selected progress technique(s) will not be included in the Calculate Progress process.
Calculate Assignment Percent Complete for apportioned Work Packages Select this option to calculate progress on apportioned work packages using the Assignment % Complete progress technique. This option evaluates all budget classes with the Include in Budget option selected. When you select this option, Cobra will apply percent complete values from source resources to their corresponding apportioned resources based on the apportionment definitions in the assigned resource file.
The calculation supports two scenarios:
  • Same as Source: Apportioned resources are created within the same work package as the source resource.
  • Pooled or 1-to-1: One or more source resources from one or more work packages generate either multiple apportioned resources in a single work package (Pooled) or a single apportioned resource in a single work package (1-to-1).

If an apportioned resource has only one source, the source’s percent complete is directly applied. If there are multiple sources, Cobra calculates a weighted average based on BAC hours (or another applicable source result) before assigning the percent complete to the apportioned resource.

Calculating Progress for Apportioned Resources

The Calculate Progress for Apportioned Resources feature calculates the Assignment % Complete values for all apportioned resources. Once this is completed, the progress totals for those Assignment % Complete values are calculated based on the updated values. This process repeats for each level of apportionment if multiple levels are defined in the project.

Force SPI of apportionment resources to match the source SPI Select this option to ensure that the earned value for apportionment items receives the same SPI as the base.
Note: This option is disabled if the Calculated Apportionment progress technique is selected on the Exclude Work Packages with the following Progress Techniques option.
Note: This option is always disabled regardless of the progress technique if the Secure option on the Progress Preferences tab of the Project Properties dialog box for the project is selected.
